Simple and Easy Ways to Spruce up Your Interior Design

Our house is where we spend most of our time doing multiple activities. From cooking and entertaining to relaxing with our family and friends – we want our space to be comfy, inviting and emit good vibes. Little things such as lovely rugs, pleasant art pieces, good lighting and cozy furniture can spruce up your home and make it more appealing.

The Majesty of the Dining Table

It’s not an understatement when we say that the dining room is the heart of our home. It’s where you serve food and dine with your family, invite your friends for supper and make new memories. Whether you’re looking for something more traditional or a contemporary dining table, there is something for everyone. Here are some tips to keep in mind when buying.

Always Measure

This is the most important first step you should take. Knowing the right size of the space and how big the table should be can help you tremendously. Also, consider the movement of the chairs, inward and outward of the table. People need to have enough space while getting up from the table. The shape is also important. Square, round and oval-shaped tables don’t take up the same space and can have different bases. Height and leg space needs to be at a comfortable level.

Choose a Good Material

Different home designs and styles require specific materials for your dining table. Solid wood will bring a warm and timeless feeling; reclaimed wood gives a lot of character and textures; glass works best with modern and elegant interiors; stone screams out luxury, and metal works best with industrial or contemporary designs. Each of these materials has different maintenance procedures, durability and quality, and when combined with the right accessories, they can be a great focal point.

The Right Shape

Choosing the right shape can make the space even more beautiful. For example, premium-quality contemporary dining tables look great in rectangular shapes. This is the most common table shape that can seat many people simultaneously. It allows enough moving space, but experts don’t recommend it for smaller rooms. Square-shaped tables work best in square rooms because it fits the aesthetics perfectly. They are most comfortable for 2-4 people and provide intimacy and closeness. Round tables fit in every room, make conversing easy, and often they come with extensions so you can invite more people. Oval dining tables provide flexibility and are best for smaller rooms with limited space.

Rugs

Rugs are the base for every home interior. They are the first physical contact with the room and can make or break the ambience. There are so many styles, patterns, shapes and materials to choose from that sometimes it can be overwhelming to know which one is right for you.

What’s Your Style?

This is the starting point of your journey. Ensure the rug complements the rest of the interior and fits the overall look. Trust yourself and don’t buy modern patterns if you don’t like them and they don’t go with your style and preferences. Think about where you will place it, do you own pets, how often you want to clean it, and is durability important to you? The answers to these questions will help you decide.

What Size Do You Need?

Never go out shopping unless you measure the space where you plan on implementing the rug. You can even use painter’s tape to help you out. Tape the area you want to cover and measure from one end to another. Make sure that the furniture aligns with the rug and has enough space when you move the chairs or the table.

The Colour Palette

Take a look around the room and figure out its colour pattern. Taking a pillow or a piece of curtains with you while shopping as an example will only make things easier. Start with the base colour of your furniture, like the sofa, match the secondary colours of your pillows or roller blinds. If you have a lot of patterns on the furniture, choose a one-colour rug to soften things up and vice versa.

Lighting

Lighting is essential for creating a functional and pleasant sitting and working area. It can define spaces and set moods depending on its placement and style. There are three types of lights:

  • Ambient – a primary source of light;
  • Task – help in certain activities;
  • Accent – decorative purpose.

Choose the lighting depending on the use of the room. Consider whether you work in it, relax, or entertain. In some rooms, we need a lot of light; in some, we don’t because of the natural lighting. Always value quality over quantity; more light doesn’t mean good light. Sometimes you’ll need to create layers to get a perfect atmosphere.

Living Room

This is the perfect place for entertainment and relaxation. It would be best if you had the option of both bright lights and a dimmer atmosphere depending on your activity. Pendants combined with dimmer switchers will work great. Also, floor lamps or table lamps can be added to the lighting options.

Dining Room

Good lighting is essential in the dining room because we eat meals and have conversations. If the room is bigger, you could get a chandelier to bring enough light. If you’re working with a smaller space, pendant lights will look fabulous when installed above contemporary dining tables. But be careful not to place them too low; you don’t want to hit your head every time you stand up.

Kitchen

This room requires a lot of attention when it comes to lighting because different areas need different light levels. Pendant lights can go over the kitchen island where we prepare food and task lights over the sink or the stove.

Bedroom

The only type of lighting you need here is a warm and calming one. One or two task lights or bedside lamps to help you read or prepare for bed will suffice. Same as in the living room, dimmer switches will help a lot.

Bathroom

Here, bright lights are a must. Bright LED lights are perfect for bathrooms. You should place them above the mirrors to get the full effect. Make sure they’re at face height; this way, they’ll be most helpful.

Side Table

Side tables are often overlooked by homeowners who don’t really understand their purpose. They can be very functional and versatile. Adding extra storage space for books, games, or covers can sometimes be a lifesaver. Experts think that every seating space should have its side table. You’ll get more personality and contrast in the room by mismatching the side tables, but if that’s not your cup of tea, feel free to get a pair of identical side tables.
Its height should be the same as or just below the armrest of the bed or the sofa. This way, you’ll get nice visuals, and it’ll be easy to reach and use. Make sure you measure before going shopping. They can be very flexible in terms of style, shape, and colour. There are so many options around and square, nude-coloured or bright patterns, rustic or modern.
