What Can Xylitol do That Sugar Can’t?

Each person is different in terms of their body and its chemistry. As soon as we reach an age of reason, when we are expected to take care of ourselves and keep track of what we put in our bodies, it is safe to assume that we know what would be best for us. Xylitol is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol which can be found in many fruits and vegetables, and that is used as a sweetener instead of the artificial variety. If you find chewing gum with Xylitol it will still have nearly the same taste as ordinary gum, but with the added benefit of being better for your teeth because it doesn’t ferment. It is also added to some oral health care products in order to prevent things such as tooth decay and dry mouth.

What you would need to be careful of is the fact that Xylitol is very toxic to dogs, so if you are a dog owner and are using Xylitol products, be sure to keep them well away from your pet. While there is also a risk of negative side effects to humans as well, the only way that could happen is if you took far more than the recommended daily limit. This is nothing to worry about seeing as how taking more than the recommended limit not being good for your health is a statement that can be made about virtually every substance known to man.

As we said before, in the end whether you do or do not get any mints, candies or chewing gum with Xylitol is entirely up to you, but now you can see why a lot of people are doing so.
